FC Bayern Munich announced today the signing of Niels Giffey, a 6'7" swingman with extensive experience in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Giffey, who turns 32 in June, joins Bayern on a multi-year deal and is expected to provide depth and versatility to the team's perimeter rotation.
Giffey, a native of Berlin, Germany, has played for several BBL clubs throughout his career, including ratiopharm Ulm, Alba Berlin, and most recently, medi Bayreuth. He has averaged 10.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in his BBL career.
Giffey is known for his athleticism, defensive versatility, and ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc. He is also a proven winner, having won the BBL championship with Alba Berlin in 2019 and 2020.
Bayern's signing of Giffey is seen as a strategic move to add depth to the team's rotation. The team currently has just two other swingmen on its roster - Cassius Winston and Gavin Schilling - and Giffey's arrival will give head coach Andrea Trinchieri more options to consider.
